Get Out Of The Rut!
A merry heart does good like a medicine:but a broken spirit dries the bones. (Prov. 17:22)
Even though our work-week is decreasing and our weekend time is increasing our country lacks inner peace. External leisure does not guarantee internal rest, does it? Time on our hands, we have. But we don't have meaningful "rest" in the Biblical sense of the term. . . .
The answer is [to make] a radical break with the rut of normal living. My good friend Tim Hansel suggests taking different kinds of vacations: midget vacations or mini-vacations (two minutes or more!). Change your routine, my friend. Blow the dust of boredom off your schedule. Shake yourself loose and get a taste of fresh life. Here are several suggestions for adding "zip" to your leisure:
Begin jogging and/or an exercise program . . .
Buy a bicycle and start pedaling . . .
Enroll in a local art class . . .
Take up a new hobby . . .
Dig around in the soil, plant a new garden.
Strengthening Your Grip There have been plenty of moments that I have fallen into a rut. Some of those instances were of my own doing while others were totally beyond my control. I must admit, at first, that I never felt comfortable being in a rut and to a certain degree that remains true today. As uncomfortable as being in a rut is, there is an opportunity for God to reveal Himself to us in ways that we may never be able to experience Him. Joseph comes to mind when I find myself in a rut. The rut can come in the form of being rejected by family and friends. The rut can also come in the form of being sent to a foreign place where you know no one. There are numerous other things that Joseph experienced that constitutes of "being in a rut". It was during that time when Joseph was in the rut when He saw God's hand upon his life. He saw God's hand move in a number of different scenarios ultimately culminating with his ascension to the throne at the right hand of the Pharaoh. Joseph should serve us as a constant reminder that no matter what situation you find yourself in, God is always faithful in completing the plan He has for our lives. It is only in the rut where God will demonstrate His awesome power in our lives. It is only in the rut where we will have no other choice but to turn to God in total dependence and relinquish any control we have over our own lives. My dear friend, do you find yourself in a rut right now as you read this post? Do you feel like the world is crumbling down upon you and there is no escape? Do you feel like your life is coming to a complete end? Take heart and know that God is by your side. All you have to do is call out His name by faith. All you have to do is let go of any control you thought you had over your life and ask God to take the reigns of your mind, heart, spirit, and soul. I personally had to come to the point in my life where I had no other choice but to acknowledge God's sovereignty and allow His will to manifest in my life. Have you come to that point already? If so, then LET GO. . . LET GOD! If you haven't, no worries, you are well on your way and God will have already equipped you in part by simply reading this post and sharing it with the people you love most. God has already prepared the way. All you need to do is trust Him when you find yourself in a rut. Thank you so much for reading this far my friends! May God continue to bless you and keep you in Jesus' mighty name! JESUS LOVES YOU AND SO DO I!!!!. . . . :-).
